Streaming Services as Alternative Distribution for Global Cinema

South Korea’s arts and entertainment are globally emerging particularly in the last decade. Starting in 1990s, Hallyu or Korean Wave were transnationally circulated. Furthermore, since Parasite (Bong Joon-ho, 2019) won 4 Oscar awards, including Best Picture and Best Director, South Korea’s pop culture has dramatically gained massive popularity more than ever.

At the same time, Over the Top (OTT) or streaming services are also gaining ground in the market as an affordable, personalized, and convenient alternative to cinema distribution, not only for Hollywood, but also for other world cinemas including Korean movies and K-drama.

To what extent can we consider streaming services as alternative distribution for global cinema? Does it have any possibility of piracy violation?

Find out the answers on our next Korean Corner webinar “Streaming Services as Alternative Distribution for Global Cinema: Case Study of Vidio and Korean Cinema/Series” with BINUS Film Department and Vidio, scheduled for Wednesday, 14 October 2020 at 13:30 – 15:00 GMT+7.
