What will I learn in the Film Program?

The Film Program offers two main academic streams: Film Production and Film Studies. In Film Production, students learn the art of filmmaking, focusing on directing, producing, and screenwriting. In Film Studies, students analyze films through theoretical, social, and cultural contexts. Additionally, students can take Free Electives or a Minor Program in interdisciplinary fields to expand their knowledge.

What facilities are available in the Film Department?

Students have access to high-end RED Digital Cameras (Komodo & Scarlet), DSLR & Mirrorless Cameras (Canon 5D Mark II, Sony A7S series, FX3), professional audio recording devices (Zoom recorders, Sennheiser mics), and lighting equipment (Aputure lights, Kino Flos, Red Heads, flags, and reflectors). The department also provides a dubbing studio, a green screen room, an auditorium for screenings, two editing suites, a sound stage, a pre-production meeting room, and a workshop area for classes. Do students need to own their own equipment?

No, students do not need to own personal filmmaking equipment. The department provides professional gear, including cameras, audio recorders, and lighting equipment, for student projects. However, students typically provide their own hard disk storage and memory cards for convenience when managing their files and footage.

Are students trained in acting as part of the Film Program?

No, the Film Program focuses on training students in directing, producing, screenwriting, cinematography, and post-production. While students learn how to direct actors, the curriculum does not include formal acting training.

Are students allowed to act in their own or peers’ campus film projects?

No, students are generally not permitted to act in their own or their peers’ campus film projects. Instead, they are encouraged to focus on directing actors.
